High-capacity alternator. A amp alternator is standard on all models and is located on rear of transmission. The alternator is powered by an auxiliary drive from the transmission input shaft. When a John Deere L keeps blowing fuses, the first task is to track down the cause by taking a close look at which fuses keep going out, and then determine why.
Usually when your lawn tractor blows fuses, only a single system is affected. The problem may be in the starting system, the headlights or the power take-off, known as the PTO. Damaged wiring may be responsible for fuses that keep blowing for no apparent reason. Check the wires for signs of wear, especially missing bits of insulation where it has cracked, melted or been otherwise damaged. If you find damage, replace the wires. Always use the proper gauge wiring, as replacing wiring with wires the wrong size can create a risk of fire.
Remove the starter and have it tested by a John Deere dealer. Replacing it will most likely resolve the problem. The PTO switch controls the power take-off system, which raises and lowers the mower deck. Have it checked for electrical problems and replace if necessary. While different lawn mower manufacturers have located the fuse holder in different areas of the lawn mower, the best place to start looking is near the mower's battery, according to Sears. Some manufacturers have made it easy to find the fuse holder.
Simply lift the hood. The fuse holder is molded into the metal right inside the hood, near the battery. See photo at Ref. Other manufacturers make it more challenging, placing the fuse inside an electrical box, located behind the mower's upper air baffle. If you check these locations and still cannot find the fuse holder, check your operator's manual for a diagram of the electrical system, which should display the fuse's location.
If you no longer have your manual, it may be available online through the manufacturer's website. Should you be unable to find a manual, call a local lawn mower dealership or lawn mower repair shop and ask for assistance in locating the fuse in your exact model.

Since it is 3 years old, I pulled the battery, used baking soda and water on all terminals, cleaned everything shiny--including the ground wire to the frame, terminal ends, etc. I added a bit of distilled water into each of the cells, installed everything and then jump started it from my truck.
Everything was fine as I allowed the tractor to idle--until I turned the front headlights on. Within a couple seconds, the lights went out and the engine died.
Could not jump start it for anything. Finally checked the fuses, and sure enough the fuel solenoid fuse was blown 3 amp. I put in a new one, and jump started it again.
It was running fine, and out of curiosity I turned the headlights on again--the engine immediately died. Checked the fuel solenoid fuse and it is blown again.
I have never had this problem before. All the other lights hazard, blinkers, etc. Any thoughts on why the front headlight circuit is blowing this fuse? Thanks in advance.

The battery charger says its fully charged. Here is a short video: John Deere will not start - YouTube When you press the brake and turn the key, the glow plug light comes on, then goes off like it should. However, when we turn the key to crank, nothing happens. I have checked the coolant, and even the button under the seat which we had had some issues with, but it all checks out fine. I first would suspect the battery I would say follow the power, from the battery, find where the starter is getting power and check all the connections, there could be fuses or fusible links to check.
You can unhook the battery and ohms test the wire from the battery to the starter to see if there's a break somewhere and narrow down where the issue lays. My dad has the and I'm not quite familiar of a fuse box in his but all the fuses in my Husqvarna are all in line, I had my Husqvarna die one day, found a inline fuse hiding, replaced it and all is good.
Also check the wiring on your key switch, make sure all is hooked up and something didn't rattle lose on you. To make sure it's not the battery you can jump the tractor, there was a guy on here that had a that when jumped would fire, off battery only the instrument panel would light, he cleaned the snot out of his battery connectors and terminals, fixed the issue, the connectors had a buildup insulating it from the battery terminals. If they stay bright when trying to turn over then it's not the battery or the battery terminals.
That looks like a good test. Appreciate the input. We will give these fixes a go and see whats up. The battery is from '13, so that might be the issue after all. Do you all normally buy OEM? I believe this last battery came from Walmart. I buy Deere batteries. If a '13 bat, then my suspicions are confirmed that is it.
